On the first page of the comic, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna can be seen as statues, decorating the dais of the Crystal Palace. Later, during Twilight's and Cadence's sentencing hearing, Sombra uses Shining Armor as a hostage to blackmail Cadence into revealing valiable information. After he is of no more use to Sombra, he gets turned to stone as well.
The statues of Celestia and Luna can be seen one last time during the climax of the story, when Sombra turns on the Umbra and gets the crystal heart back to its original place instead of shattering it, which leads to the defeat of the Umbra. As a result, all statues transform back into ponies.
